Salty Dog Pest Control

Box Elder Bug Control

Box elder bugs cluster on warm, sunny walls in fall and work their way indoors to overwinter — often alongside stink bugs and cluster flies. Salty Dog Pest Control treats and seals them out before they get inside.

Box elder bug behavior

In autumn, box elder bugs gather in large numbers on south- and west-facing walls to soak up warmth, then push through gaps to overwinter in wall voids and attics. They do not damage your home, but the numbers and the staining they can leave make them a real nuisance.

How we treat box elder bugs

We treat active clusters and focus on exclusion — sealing entry points around siding, windows, and rooflines — before and during the fall push. Because they overwinter alongside other pests, we handle them together with stink bug and cluster fly control for a complete overwintering treatment.

Box elder bug FAQ

When is the best time to treat? Late summer to early fall, before they move indoors, gives the best results.
