House mice are small gray rodents that thrive indoors, nesting in walls, cabinets, and appliances. They squeeze through gaps the width of a pencil, breed rapidly, and are the most common rodent found inside Whidbey and Fidalgo homes.
How to identify house mice
Small, 2.5 to 4 inches with a similar-length tail, dusty gray fur, and a pointed nose. Droppings are tiny, dark, and rod-shaped, about 1/8 inch.
Behavior & season on Whidbey & Fidalgo
They stay close to shelter and food, active year-round, and nest in warm voids near kitchens and utility rooms. A single pair can produce dozens of offspring in a season.
Why house mice are a problem
They contaminate food and surfaces, gnaw packaging and wiring, and their droppings and urine can spread bacteria and trigger allergies. Small entry gaps make them easy to overlook until numbers build.
