How to identify yellowjackets

About 1/2 inch, bright yellow and black, with a smooth, hairless body and quick, darting flight. Nests are hidden in soil, wall voids, or dense cover.

Colonies grow all summer and turn aggressive in late season as food sources shift toward sugars and proteins at picnics and trash. They can sting repeatedly and recruit nestmates when threatened.

Why yellowjackets are a problem
